Cloud engineer

The cloud engineer builds, operates and improves the cloud platform. They make sure standards are met, and automate implementation and control as much as possible. The cloud engineer also provides the DevOps teams with tools and knowledge to start working with the cloud platform.

Training and education

A cloud engineer meets the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s and master’s degree

  • Cloud engineer certified, DevOps engineer certified

  • Microsoft training (AZ-104)

Important skills and knowledge

A cloud engineer:

  • Has in-depth knowledge of different cloud concepts and closely follows the development of cloud technology – for IaaS, PaaS and SaaS

  • Has knowledge of agile ways of working within the whole stack from Dev to Ops and works with automated pipelines (CI/CD)

  • Has experience with automation tools such as ARM, Powershell, CLI, Bicep, CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible, etc

  • Has several years of experience in implementing AWS / Azure production environments

  • Has basic scripting and programming skills (cloud-native tools)
